Sarmat Missile Explosion Reasons Revealed

Experts are laughing heartily.

During tests in the Russian Federation, the RS-28 Sarmat nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile exploded right in a pit. Experts assume that the cause was problems with the liquid power plant, writes Der Spiegel

Norwegian earthquake experts from the Norsar Institute were unable to find evidence of a strong explosion, while expert George Barros from the Institute for the Study of War stated that the diameter of the funnel after the failed launch was approximately 62 meters.

The article reads that the Sarmat, with a mass of more than 200 tons, is 6 times heavier and twice as long (35 meters) as the American Minuteman III nuclear missiles. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the RS-28 Sarmat can bypass all modern missile defence systems, as it has better tactical and technical characteristics.

"When you test new systems, you should expect mistakes at the initial stage. But in the case of the Sarmat, this looks like a big mistake," Timothy Wright, an expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, told the publication.

He also suggested that the problem could be in the liquid propulsion system; Russia may have difficulties with such technologies.

European missile expert Markus Schiller, in a commentary to the media, claims:

"Russia does not present a good picture in the development of this missile. This incident once again shows that not everything is smooth in the Russian arms industry."

But Christian Mölling from the Bertelsmann Foundation added that the unsuccessful tests of the Sarmat are damaging the image of the Russian Federation.

"Experts look at the development of the Sarmat and now laugh heartily," he concluded.
