New Zealand Imposes Sanctions Against Belarusian Defence Enterprises

Today New Zealand announced another expansion of sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

‘The latest package of sanctions targets those involved in Russia's illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (Ukraine), the Russian military-industrial complex, as well as Belarusian individuals and organisations supporting the invasion,’ commented the country's Foreign Minister Winston Peters.

He emphasised that the Russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant threatens nuclear safety and called on Russia to end it, as well as to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

‘The imposition of sanctions on Belarusian entities is the result of a concerted effort with our like-minded international partners to condemn and hold accountable those who support Russia's illegal actions,’ the minister added.

The New Zealand sanctions list includes:

Aliaksandr Maroz - director of BelOMO,

Uladzimir Marozau - is listed as the head of the Belarusian railway, but he was removed from this position in August,

Dzmitry Sheutsou - general secretary of the Belarusian Red Cross Society,

the Vorsha Aircraft Repair Plant,

BelOMO.

A number of Russian individuals were also added to the sanctions list, including:

Alexander Vitko - listed as Chief of the Navy Main Staff - First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, but dismissed from his post back in 2021.

Oleg Romanenko - General Director of the Russian JSC Zaporizhzhia NPP Operating Organisation,

JSC Zaporizhzhia NPP Operating Organisation,

All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics named after Academician E.I. Zababakhin,

All-Russian Institute of Experimental Physics,

Kurchatov Institute National Research Centre.
