British Expert: Kursk Operation Changed The Dynamics Of War

Russia has made a number of strategic mistakes.

British expert, researcher at the Estonian International Center for Defence and Security James Sherr believes that the successful operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region demonstrated the vulnerability of the Russian territory and changed the dynamics of the war. According to him, the Ukrainian military used a classic example of an operational maneuver, inflicting an unexpected blow to the enemy's rear.

"This was a classic example of an operational maneuver: a bold strike due to a weak spot on the enemy line in the rear. In the end, the operation was conceived and conducted in conditions of almost complete surprise," the report reads.

Sherr stressed that this broke a long cycle of grueling warfare. He also noted that Russia had suffered significant losses and made a number of strategic mistakes, in particular the redeployment of elite units from the northern borders to the south, where they were defeated.

The expert believes that Ukraine's success in the Kursk region forced Russia to redeploy a significant number of troops, which restrained their build-up in other areas and allowed Ukraine to launch successful counter-offensives.

According to British military intelligence, the expert pointed out, Russia lost about 1,200 troops every day in August. It made some startling miscalculations, in particular, they relocated the 80th Arctic Brigade from the borders with Norway and Finland to the Dnipro estuary, which was defeated because her specialized skills were not used.

However, according to Sherr, in order for Russia to be ready for significant concessions, it must be on the verge of defeat.
