Lukashenka's Friends From Zimbabwe Have Serious Problems

They want to start eating elephants because of hunger.

The Zimbabwean regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa, with whom Lukashenka has been closely cooperating lately, has started having problems.

Due to the upcoming food shortage caused by drought, 200 elephants will be killed in Zimbabwe. The authorities have already given the corresponding order, The Guardian reports.

The elephants will be hunted, including in the country's largest reserve — Hwange. Then, officials plan to “mobilize women to dry the meat, pack it and ensure delivery to some communities that need protein”.

There are currently about 100,000 elephants in Zimbabwe — “more than necessary”, according to the Minister of the Environment. Some experts and animal rights activists disagree with him. They believe the government needs to have more environmentally friendly methods of dealing with the drought and are worried that the decision to kill elephants could put off tourists on ethical grounds.

“We have already shown that we are poor stewards of natural resources and our appetite for ill-gotten wealth knows no bounds, so this needs to be stopped because it is unethical,” says Farai Maguwu, director of the national Centre for Natural Resource Management.
