The United States successfully conducted an electronic test launch of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, the US Air Force Base Offutt reported. The test, conducted on September 17 without actually launching the missile, was called a “signal to our allies and adversaries”. Such tests are conducted twice a year to check the readiness of the missile system for operational use.

The Minuteman III is a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile that has been in service with the US Army since 1970. Its range is about 9.5 thousand kilometers. The last test launch of the missile was conducted in June, another test took place in September 2023. In the mid-2030s, Minuteman III is planned to be completely replaced by Sentinel missiles.
