For “espionage”.

The Brest Regional Court sentenced Polish citizen Tomasz Beroza to 14 years in a maximum security penal colony. He was charged under articles on intelligence activities (Part 1 of Article 358-1 of the Criminal Code) and espionage (Article 358 of the Criminal Code). The case was heard behind closed doors by Judge Siarhei Beraziuk, the Viasna human rights center reports.

The sentence was handed down a year ago, on June 14, 2023. Human rights activists learned about it only now. Beroza is serving his sentence in penal colony #22.

At the moment, human rights activists know of three Polish citizens convicted for political reasons. These are Jerzy Żywolewski, Robert Tampała and Tomasz Beroza. Another Pole, Roman Gałuza, is in custody and is currently on trial.
