ISW: This Strike Helps Stopping Russian Offensive

Analysts have explained why it is so important for the AFU to strike at Russian territory.

The AFU will be able to disrupt large-scale offensive operations of the occupants if Ukraine's western allies allow them to hit military facilities on the territory of Russia.

This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). As an example, the analysts cite the strikes of the AFU at the end of June. Then, according to satellite images, the Ukrainian military successfully attacked the command post of a Russian regiment in Belgorod region, probably with foreign weapons.

The location of the facility near the front line and less than a kilometre from the border suggests that it was of significance in the Russians' operations in Kharkiv Region. At the same time, the latest satellite images show significant damage to the building. According to the Institute's analysts, the AFU attacked the site with a French Armement Air-Sol Modulaire Hammer precision bomb.

"This confirms the fact that Ukraine can disrupt Russian offensive operations if Western countries continue to lift restrictions on the use of their weapons by the AFU to strike military targets in Russia. Ukraine should be able to use Western-provided weapons, particularly ATACMS missiles, to strike Russian military targets in Russia's operational rear and deep rear to substantially disrupt enemy operations on a large scale," the experts conclude.
