The current prime minister, Rishi Sunak, has conceded defeat to his Conservative Party.

In the morning of Friday, July 5, Sunak said in the town of Northallerton, where his constituency is located, that "the Labour Party has won this general election."

"I called Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. I am now travelling to London where I will say more about today's result before I leave the office of Prime Minister to which I have given my all," Sunak said.

"There is much to learn and much to think about. And I take responsibility for our loss," he added.

As early as the afternoon of July 5, Starmer will become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after an audience with the British King.

The official counting of the results by constituency already confirms that Labour wins 328 seats in the House of Commons - already exceeding the minimum majority of 326 seats.
