Attack On Dagestan: More Than 15 Law Enforcers Killed

More than 15 police officers have been killed in a militant attack in Russia's Dagestan. Six attackers were liquidated. This is reported by the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov.

According to him, several other civilians were also killed, including a clergyman, Father Nikolai, who worked for more than 40 years in the Orthodox church in Derbent.

According to the republic's muftiate, 25 people were injured, and a policeman in the village of Sergokala - the administrative centre of the Sergokala district - is also known to have been wounded. Two sons and a nephew of Sergokala district head Magomed Omarov were among the attackers.

In the evening of June 23, two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a traffic police post were attacked in Derbent and Makhachkala. In Derbent, the rector of the Church of the Protecting Veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Father Nikolai Kotelnikov, had his throat cut by the militants.
