Which companies fell under the restrictions?

Japan has imposed trade restrictions on Chinese companies as part of a new round of sanctions against individuals and groups supporting Russia's war against Ukraine. The new sanctions also target companies in India, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

According to Reuters, citing the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the new sanctions are also aimed at companies in India, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, this is the first time that Japan has imposed sanctions against Chinese companies in connection with the war.

Target companies include Hong Kong-based Asia Pacific Links Ltd, which supplied microchips for Russian drones, and China-based Yilufa Electronics Limited. The sanctions, which are in line with previous measures imposed by other countries, including the US, prohibit Japanese companies from exporting products to target firms.

US officials said China supports Russia's military efforts. The US has expanded its sanctions on Russia, including by targeting Chinese companies selling semiconductors to Moscow.

Beijing and Moscow are also taking difficult steps to secure bilateral payments, potentially exposing some Chinese financial firms to sanctions.
