SIPRI: There Is No Evidence Of Deployment Of Russian Nuclear Weapons In Belarus

There are only public statements.

Experts of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) state that there is no "convincing visual evidence" of the deployment of tactical nuclear warheads of the Russian Federation in Belarus.

According to experts, the size of Russia's and the United States' military nuclear weapons stockpiles, which together account for almost 90% of the world's nuclear arsenal, remained relatively stable in 2023. Meanwhile, Russia, according to SIPRI estimates, had deployed about 36 more warheads by the beginning of 2024 than a year earlier.

"It is noteworthy that in 2023, several public statements were made that Russia had deployed nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, although there is no convincing visual evidence that the actual deployment of warheads took place," the experts said.
