Law-Enforcers Detain Catholic Priest

Allegedly, for storing “extremist materials”.

The detention of the priest-canon of the Heart of Jesus parish in Karalioushchyna Yury Barauniou has been reported as it happened yesterday.

The priest is being prosecuted for allegedly storing “extremist materials” (Article 19.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus). A trial is to take place.

The Vitsebsk region is the “leader” in the detention of Catholic priests. In total, 31 priests have been subjected to administrative arrests since 2020, 13 of them from the Vitsebsk diocese.
