Macron: EU May Cease To Exist

Europe must be competitive in order to survive.

The European Union ‘may die’ if it does not become more competitive with the US and China. French President Emmanuel Macron warned about this during the Berlin Global Dialogue, Bloomberg reports.

In particular, Macron said that the EU ‘over-regulates and invests little,’ while Washington and Beijing have outpaced the EU in economic growth and investment.

Meanwhile, member states should also insist that global trade rules remain fair, the French leader said:

‘The EU could die, we are standing on the threshold of a very important moment. Our previous model is over - we over-regulate and under-invest. In the next two or three years, if we stick to our classical agenda, we will be out of the market.’
