‘There Are Three Reasons Why Lukashenka Hastily Arranging ‘Elections’

  • 29.10.2024, 12:39

The dictator is facing a fight for the seat.

Ukrainian political scientist Yevhen Magda expressed the opinion in an interview with BGmedia that the “amplitude of geopolitical fluctuations” of the Belarusian dictator will decrease.

“I think this will be a fairly natural process: he is already 70, and he is not in the best physical shape. But we are not talking about this. We are talking about the fact that Lukashenka will have to fight desperately for the next five years to keep his seat. And, as far as I understand, this fight will be more desperate than the fight from 2020 to this day,” the analyst concludes.

Speaking about the reasons that pushed Aliaksandr Lukashenka to early “elections”, Magda highlights several factors:

“Firstly, Russia can deal with him very harshly, despite all the public kisses and assurances of mutual friendship. Lukashenka and Putin are far from friends, as I have said many times, and therefore it is not worth counting on them to build friendly relations.

The second factor is the economy. If the Belarusian ruble slumps, then it is easier to contain this process until January 26 than until February 23, and especially until July 20. Everything is clear here.

The third factor is the Russian “Shaheds”. Several dozen “Shaheds” have already flown over Belarusian territory, and only by a miracle, in my opinion, there were no casualties or destruction. Now imagine how Russian propaganda will act if some drone flies into the Mazyr oil refinery and causes an explosion there, for example. Or, God forbid, human casualties. I understand that Lukashenka will be given the necessary results of the “elections”: they will be around 90+. But the situation is still unpleasant for him.”
