Putin Embarrasses Himself At BRICS Summit

He couldn't pronounce Erdogan's surname.

During the BRICS summit, Putin found himself in a ridiculous situation and could not pronounce the name of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

It took him three attempts to introduce the Turkish president correctly before his speech. However, he still failed to pronounce the three words properly.

The incident was caught on live broadcast cameras and quickly went viral on social media and the internet.

‘A word to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Ercagan... Recep Tayyip... Erdjaga... Er Erdogan,’ Putin was stammering as he tried to pronounce the politician's surname.

The Kremlin chief has repeatedly misspoken when addressing the leaders of other states. For example, he regularly misspells the name of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Putin turned 72 in early October and has increasingly shown signs of cognitive problems in recent years. Neurologists have noted that difficulty pronouncing words in old age can indicate neurological problems, including Parkinson's disease, neurodegenerative diseases and dyscirculatory encephalopathy. Cognitive causes are equally common: dementia of various types, memory impairment, slowed processing of information and difficulty in word-finding.
