Russia's state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence, adapted to the new military-political realities, provides for the possibility of using nuclear weapons in response to aggression against Belarus as a member of the “union state”.

This was stated by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov at a meeting with the head of the Belarusian military department Viktar Khrenin, which took place on October 23 in Minsk.

“Changes in the military-political situation have necessitated clarifying the principles of the Russian Federation's state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence. And adapting it to new realities. In particular, the possibility of using nuclear weapons in response to aggression against Belarus as a member of the “union state” is provided for,” Belousov said at a meeting of the joint board of the defense ministries of Russia and Belarus.
