Forbes: German Skynex Air Defence System Can Help Ukraine Greatly

Experts pointed out its advantages.

German Skynex anti-aircraft systems are a short-range air defence system that could be of great benefit to Ukraine. The system itself from the Rheinmetall company has an open architecture, which will allow Ukrainians to bring their own innovations or achievements to the development.

Thus, Ukraine can redesign Skynex to suit its needs or new realities on the battlefield, Forbes writes.

The open architecture makes it possible to integrate it with other sensors or other air defence system platforms. Experts say that the Ukrainian defence industry is not standing still.

Kyiv will be able to integrate sensors, radars, detectors, missiles and so on into Skynex. Oerlikon, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, worked on the Skynex system.

Initially, the short-range air defence system was designed to shoot down helicopters and drones.

To date, Germany has delivered only two such systems to Ukraine, but two more Skynex systems are expected to arrive in the future.

In October, Berlin announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes two IRIS-t air defence systems.
