Former Head Of Naftan Strike Committee Volha Brytsikava Gets Three More Years In Prison

Former head of the Naftan strike committee Volha Brytsikava has had three years added to her sentence on a new charge, as reported by the Viasna Human Rights Center in September. The activist's final sentence is 6 years in prison.

Volha worked at the plant for 16 years. In 2022, after she took a photo of a ballot at the "referendum," she was arrested 5 times in a row for 15 days each. In November, she was arrested again under the article on violation of order or holding mass events (Article 24.23 of the Administrative Code), for a drawing with the inscription "No War" on a Facebook page.

In 2022, she spent 105 days under administrative arrest, after which it became known that a criminal case had been opened against her.

On April 8, the Vitebsk Regional Court sentenced Volha to three years in a general regime prison in a closed session. The activist was accused of "inciting other social discord or hostility" under Part 1 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code. This sentence was announced by Judge Halina Bandal.

In August, the woman was put on trial again, the charges included articles on calls for measures against national security (Part 3 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code) and assistance to extremist activity (Part 1 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code).
