Belarusian Doctors Prepare For ‘Attack’ Of Particular Cancer Type

Recently, Belarusian oncologists have been actively preparing for the fact that cases of colon cancer will increase. One of the reasons is what modern people eat. This was told to the Medical Bulletin by the head physician of the Minsk City Clinical Oncology Center (MCCOC), the chief oncology specialist of the Minsk City Executive Committee's Health Committee Viktar Kandratovich.

According to Viktar Kandratovich, the clinic is already training specialists who will work exclusively with colon cancer. They also plan to expand the center's department that deals with colorectal cancer.

— The cause of colorectal cancer is the nature of modern people's diet, — the specialist notes.

According to him, the development of the disease is caused by the transition to fast food and the fact that people began to eat less fiber. Another point is the untimely sanitation of polyps, because the precursor of colorectal cancer is a colon polyp. According to the specialist, five to seven years pass from the moment it appears to the development of a tumor.

— If patients at risk, over 50, had a colonoscopy and polyp sanitation at least once every five years, the incidence would decrease significantly, — Viktar Kandratovich is convinced. — The primary link — doctors of polyclinics — should talk to patients about the need for such control, convince them. We are ready to provide organizational and methodological assistance, but the oncology service is intended for the treatment of patients with already proven cancer.

It should be noted that colon cancer is in the top 3 oncological diseases among Belarusians. Men in our country most often suffer from lung cancer, prostate cancer and colorectal cancer. In women, breast cancer is in first place, and colorectal cancer and oncological diseases of the reproductive system are also in the top three most common.
