Political Scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev To Stand Trial In Moscow For ‘Slandering’ Lukashenka

The trial of Russian political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev will take place on October 15. This became known when his student, blogger Roman Yuneman, wrote about it in his Telegram channel.

Yuneman, who is writing a PhD dissertation on Kazakhstan under Suzdaltsev's supervision, notes that his teacher worked in Belarus for 13 years and is considered “one of the best experts on this country in the Russian Federation”. At the same time, he is a “consistent critic of the regime of Aliaksandr Lukashenka”, but “exclusively from a pro-Russian position”.

Because of this, Lukashenka is allegedly taking revenge on him, and things have reached the point that Suzdaltsev will be tried in a criminal case.

The criminal case against Suzdaltsev was initiated on the basis of a lawsuit filed by the Belarusian Embassy in Russia for slander (Article 128.1, Part 2 and Part 5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The political scientist's trial will take place on October 15 in the Lefortovo Court of Moscow.

Under the articles brought against Suzdaltsev, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
