'Pashinyan Relies On Putin, Lukashenka In Vain'

The events in Nagorno-Karabakh clearly demonstrate the worth of Moscow's guarantees.

A "small" war in the South Caucasus has flashed against the background of the big war that aggressive Russia is waging against brotherly Ukraine, writes a reader of Charter97.org:

- The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which de jure belongs to Azerbaijan but is predominantly populated by Armenians, has been going on for a very long time. They started writing about it when I was still a student - in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, with the support of Armenia, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was formed, and no one recognized it.

All the years Armenia supported this formation, which they called Artsakh. For some reason Armenians decided that the best guarantor of the security of the country and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was "Great Russia". For this reason, Armenia willingly joined all military and economic structures controlled by the Russian Federation, allowed Russian military bases, rolling over for the Kremlin on the international arena.... Unlike Belarus, the authorities there changed, but the course of "integration with Russia" remained unchanged.

Over 25 years, Azerbaijan has strengthened, armed itself and, having obtained the support of Turkey, launched an offensive against the unrecognised republic in the autumn of 2020. In a month and a half, with the help of Turkish drones, the Azerbaijanis defeated Armenian troops, recapturing a large part of the territory.

Our reader believes that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hoped in vain for help from the CSTO allies:

- He flattered Putin in every possible way, and even hastily congratulated Lukashenka on his "victory" in the August "elections". But Moscow only expressed deep concern.

And here is the last act of this drama. The hostilities lasted not a month and a half, but a day and a half, after which the troops of Nagorno-Karabakh capitulated. This time Moscow did not even express concern, but through Dima Peskov hypocritically stated that it was about the actions of the Azerbaijani army on its territory.

These events vividly show the worth of Moscow's guarantees and signed agreements. Russians also used to guarantee inviolability of borders to Ukrainians and promised support to Armenians. As they say, promises are trinkets, but they make fools happy. And we, Belarusians, in order to preserve ourselves, must not believe pro-Russian fools in any way.
