Media: Hrodna School Asks Parents To Report If Their Families Have ‘Foreign Documents’

Education officials feigned “sincere surprise.”

A Zerkalo source said that recently in one of the schools in the Leninski district of Hrodna, parents were asked to report whether any of their family members had Pole cards or residence permits from other countries. The education department of the Hrodna City Executive Committee was “sincerely surprised” by such an initiative.

“The class master wrote to the parent chat asking everyone who has foreign documents to send her information about this in private messages,” the source said.

Parents in at least several classes of one of the schools received similar requests. For security reasons, journalists do not name the educational institution.

At the same time, mothers and fathers are asked to report if they have Pole cards or residence permits, not only their children. The source does not know what will happen if the families do not do this.

To find out what this initiative was about, the Zerkalo journalist, introducing herself as the mother of a schoolchild, called the department of education, sports and tourism of the Leninski district of Hrodna.

“This is the first time I’ve heard of this,” the department specialist was sincerely surprised and recommended contacting her superiors.

The journalists were unable to get through by phone, so they turned to the education department of the Hrodna City Executive Committee.

“To be honest, this is the first time I’ve heard [about this],” the official was surprised and asked to tell us in more detail which school we were talking about. “To understand [what is happening], I need to call the headmaster, there must be some “home-made initiative” of a class master here.”
