Huge Crater Left After Explosion In Belgorod City Centre

A car was thrown onto the roof of a shop by the blast wave.

There was an explosion in the Russian city of Belgorod, a 20-metre long crater was formed in one of the central streets of the city, 4 flats and several cars were damaged and two people were injured.

It was reported by the Zhest Belgorod Telegram channel, along with Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov and Russian mayor Valentin Demidov.

At first, Telegram users reported that "it's loud!" over the region.

Later there was information about a "huge crater" on Vatutin street, photos and video of eyewitnesses.

A car was thrown onto the roof of a Pyaterochka shop by a shock wave.

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that there had been an explosion in Belgorod.

"A huge crater with a radius of 20 metres has formed at the intersection of one of the main streets. There is damage to the glazing of a neighbouring apartment building, the blast damaged several parked cars and knocked down electricity poles," he said.

Mayor Valentin Demidov, head of the regional security department Evgeny Vorobyov and all operational and emergency services arrived at the scene.

Mayor Demidov reported from the scene of the "accident" at the intersection of Vatutin and Gubkin Streets that "the explosion damaged several cars, created a crater with a radius of about 20 meters," and that "there was damage to several flats on Shalandin Street as a result of the explosion."

Gladkov clarified that a site inspection revealed damage to 4 flats in an apartment building on Shalandin Street.

According to preliminary data, two women were injured: one with a craniocerebral injury was hospitalized in a moderate state, the second with abrasions refused to be hospitalized.
