The launch was unsuccessful.

During US President Joe Biden's visit to Kyiv on February 20, Russia conducted a test launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile. The launch was unsuccessful.

CNN reported.

Russia notified the United States in advance of the launch through deconfliction lines, according to the news agency's sources. The US did not view the test as an anomaly or an escalation.

The test of the Sarmat heavy missile appears to have failed. Russia has successfully tested it before and had this one worked, US officials believe Russian President Vladimir Putin would have highlighted the test in his State of the Nation address on Tuesday.

Joe Biden's historic visit to Kyiv on February 20 was the first visit by a US president to Ukraine in 15 years.

Biden announced additional aid to Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia, and discussed with President Volodymyr Zelensky the transfer of long-range weapons to Kyiv.
