BSU Journalism Teacher Hanna Kureichyk Arrested For 15 Days

The detention of the assistant professor became known yesterday.

The Court of the Central District of Minsk ruled against Hanna Kureichyk, Associate Professor of the Department of Television and Radio Broadcasting of the Faculty of Journalism of the Belarusian State University, Viasna reports.

The teacher was tried under article 24.3 "Disobedience to the lawful demands of an official."

Earlier, in September 2020, Hanna Kureichyk spoke in social networks about the events taking place in Belarus. In her opinion, there was a "targeted destruction of the profession of a journalist" in the country.

As noted on the website of the Faculty of Journalism, Hanna Kureichyk was born in 1976 in Minsk. Since 1997, she took part in the development of the concept and the creation of a new radio station — "Stalitsa", on the air of which she continued her work until she graduated from the Faculty of Journalism. In 2000-2003 she worked as a journalist and host of the Post Factum program (the First National Channel of the Belarusian Radio). In 2003, she completely switched to work at the Department of Television and Radio Broadcasting of the Faculty of Journalism of the Belarusian State University.

Currently, Kureichyk is an assistant professor at the Department of Television and Radio Broadcasting. In the past, she served as Deputy Dean for the Internationalization of Education and Foreign Relations.
