Activists of “Release” civil initiative, founded by relatives of new Belarusian political prisoners, have met with Archbishop Martin Vidović, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Belarus.

They gave the diplomatic representative of the Holy See their address to the Pope with a request for prayer and facilitation of release of political prisoners in Belarus, Radio Svaboda informs.

The families of the prisoners successfully visited Archbishop Martin Vidović at the second attempt. I the beginning of their meeting they straightened the misunderstanding which had been caused by technical reasons, and then they had a long conversation, said one of the participants of the meeting, Volha, the wife of a political prisoner Zmitser Bandarenka.

“We have been talking for about 2 hours, and it was a very good conversation. We told about all the problems we face. Yet, I was very nervous, I even cried a little, though I had not been crying recently at all. We have also forwarded a letter to the Pope, in which we told about the events of December 19 and about the prisoners. We asked for his assistance and prayer. The Apostolic Nuncio gave us blessing, for things to work out well for their families.”
