Сandidates withdraw from “election”: 16 constituencies are non-alternative

MP candidate in Iuye constituency #53 Uladzimir Barshchou made an oral statement on his withdrawal to the Central election Commission.

Uladzimir Barshchou is an acting member of the “house of representatives”. So, only one candidate for MP, deputy head of the Ashmyany district executive committee Valyantina Luzina, remains in this constituency. It also mean than one more, 16th, constituency has appeared, where the voters wil have only one candidate to vote. Every of these constituencies have only one candidate, Radio Svaboda reports.

Now only 263 candidates run in the “election”, Radio Svaboda has learnt from the Central Election Commission. It should be reminded that 365 people applied for registration. About 80 people weren’t registered, more than 20 withdrew from the “election” on their own will. The average number of candidates per seat is 2.4 persons. In 2000, when most of the opposition parties boycotted the “election”, this index was 5.5 people per seat. Observers note low interest of the Belarusians in the so called “election”.
